INUNI4U
My name is Maggie Lu, I am the founder and designer behind INUNI4U. I am also a world-class fencer, and a student in the twelfth grade at Appleby College located in Oakville, Ontario.

Being part of the student community, I have received a lot of feedback about the uniform from my peers. Their voices inspired me to take the initiative to upgrade and improve the design of our athletic wear.

OUR STORY
The word “diversity” conjures up a group of people from different social and ethnic backgrounds, different genders and sexual orientations, each person with their own unique story to tell. But though important, diversity is not limited to racial, cultural, and sexual diversity. In my opinion, the fundamental goal of diversity is to show people new ideas, new perspectives, and ultimately, to let them embody diversity within themselves.

The Appleby’s uniform is both good-looking and formal. It demonstrates school spirit and unites the Appleby community. However, I believe that with some attention to detail the uniform can be taken from good to great. I was thus motivated to optimize the practicality of certain uniform items, make these items more comfortable, and design new items to embrace inclusion and diversity. My goal is to leverage my proficiency in sports and my passion for design to popularize the Appleby athletic wear among students.

Uniform Project
Maggie started an Appleby uniform renew project by herself, inspired by some of the comments she has heard regarding uniform from her peers. Maggie created a survey and collected data from 138 students. She analyzed data collected and came up with a new design for the women’s gym shorts which people were most concerned about. The design has been received by the Appleby College is currently working on. New design coming soon…
SIT DOWN COMEDY
Comedy Fundraising
Maggie was a performer and VP of Marketing for the event Sit Down Comedy as a fundraiser for the charity SickKids.
"During Covid, I went back to China and studied virtually in Canada, and I felt isolated and disconnected from the community. During those dark days, I felt I could understand the impact mental health has on our lives. It is vitally important, yet often ignored, especially for youth. Sick Kids focuses on mental health, and I now know how important its mission is. While too much mental suffering goes on in silence, comedy is the opposite: it is loud, personal, and possesses the magical alchemy to change suffering to joy. I’m so glad to have this opportunity to help the other young people while also pursuing my personal comedic dreams."
